Songoftheday 6/7/13 - And then the summer became the fall, I was not ready for the winter...

Stevie Nicks with Sandy Stewart - "Nightbird"
from the album The Wild Heart (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's Song of the Day is by singer/songwriter and Fleetwood Mac's resident "dreamer" Stevie Nicks, whose 1983 release The Wild Heart had already spun out two top-20 singles with the Prince-assisted "Stand Back" and its follow-up "If Anyone Falls". For her third single she went with "Nightbird", a song she wrote with backup singer and longtime collaborator Sandy Stewart, who gets a featured credit on the single, which sounds the most "classic FM-style Nicks" of that album...

"Nightbird" became Stevie's third top-40 pop hit from the album (and lucky seventh overall), as well as making the top-40 on both the rock (#32) and adult contemporary (#39) formats as well. It also remains one of my personal faves of her catalog.

Here's Stevie singing with her sister-in-law Lori live with "Nightbird"...

Up tomorrow: a gone-too-soon legend returns to the top-40 one more time.
