Rock Sweep: June 22, 2013...

I'm back with round two of this week's "chart sweeps" of the new songs making the charts in Billboard magazine, and now I'm up to the latest on rock radio...

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Imagine Dragons command the top spot for a 15th week with "Radioactive"...

Rocketing in at #20 is the first single in five years from industrial-rock giants Nine Inch Nails with "Came Back Haunted". Their last time on the chart came before the "Rock Airplay" came to being, but "Discipline" reached #24 on the "mainstream rock" chart in 2008. This welcome return is my "Rock Pick of the Week"...

The only other new entry on the main rock chart at #48 is Icelandic rock group Of Monsters And Men with the third single from their excellent My Head Is An Animal album, "King And Lionheart"...

...and now for the rock format subcharts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Alice In Chains claim their fifth #1 hit with "Stone". It's notable that four of the five came from the reincarnated band with new lead singer William DuVall. The top debut at #33 is the aforementioned Nine Inch Nails track...

Arriving at #34 is Canadian post-grunge outfit Three Days Grace with "Misery Loves My Company", the third single from their Transit of Venus album. They have accrued nine chart-topping singles on this format..

..and at #37 are British rockers Young Guns, who follow up their #1 mainstream rock hit "Bones" with "Towers (On My Way)"...

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, The Neighbourhood retake the top spot for a third non-consecutive week with "Sweater Weather", while Nine Inch Nails leap in at #18 with "Came Back Haunted" as the only debut...

Over at the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Serena Ryder spends a seventh week at #1 with "Stompa"...

Newcomer ZZ Ward follows her top-5 AAA hit "Put The Gun Down" with the track at #27, "365 Days"...

Singer/songwriter Lorde, from Auckland, New Zealand, takes her #1 hit from her homeland to #28 here with "Royals"...

The last debut on this format at #29 is Brooklyn-based alt-country group The Lone Bellow, whose self-titled album is a must have, and their first radio hit "Bleeding Out" makes the AAA list...

On the harder-edged Active Rock format, Danish metal band Volbeat hold on to the top spot for a fourth week with "Hangman's Bodycount", while the aforementioned Nine Inch Nails and Three Days Grace tracks come in at #31 and #32, respectively...

Joining them at #38 is Savannah-based "sludge metal" group Baroness with "March To The Sea"...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock chart, Shinedown jump back up to #1 for a fourth non-consecutive week with "I'll Follow You"...

Moving in at #19 is Halestorm with "Here's To Us", which moves up to #27 on both the Mainstream and Active Rock lists...

and coincidentally, the song entering at #20, "Leader Of The Broken Hearts" by Papa Roach, jumps to #28 on both the Mainstream and Active Rock charts as well...

That does it for the rock side of the house...I'll return in an hour and a half with the newest on R&B radio. Rock on!
