Kraut Sweep: June 4, 2013...






I'm back with this week's recap of the new songs making their way on to the top-100 of the German singles chart, as Daft Pink's "Get Lucky" becomes their first #1 hit in this country...

The top debut of the week at #4 is German pop band Frida Gold, from the western city of Hattingen, with their first top-10 hit, "Liebe Ist Meine Rebellion" ("Love is My Rebellion")....

Since this is the first chart after the broadcast of the finals of the song contest Eurovision, a bunch of entries on here are from the show (Germany's own entry, Cascada's "Glorious", leaps 45 places to #33). The winner of the event, Danish singer Emmelie De Forest's "Only Teardrops", arrives on the chart here at #5....


Norwegian R&B/hiphop (yes, it's a thing) act Madcon have the third debut in the top-10 with "One Life" featuring Kelly Rowland at #8. It's their fourth top-10 hit in Germany - "Glow" made it to #4 in 2010...


Coincidentally the next entry at #24 is Norway's entry to Eurovision, "I Feel You My Love" by Margaret Berger. It placed fourth in the competition...


The theme to the new Fast & Furious 6 film, 2 Chainz & Wiz Khalifa's "We Own It", comes on at #28.


The Hungarian entry to Eurovision, "Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix)" ("My Darling") by indie-pop singer ByeAlex, was one of the few non-English songs on the show, yet it still placed at #10 in the finals. It's here at #39...


British singer/songwriter Alex Hepburn debuts at #40 with her first hit "Under". The song went to #2 in neighboring France a month ago (strangely it hasn't been anywhere in the UK yet)...


The retro-styled Great Gatsby soundtrack hit "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)" by Fergie, Q-Tip, and GoonRock enters at #41. As a solo artist, Fergie has reached the top-10 here twice, with "London Bridge" going to #3 in 2006...


British R&B/pop vocal group Blue return at #44 with the third single from their Roulette album, "Without You". They have racked up six top-10 singles in Germany, with their cover of "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" with Elton John reaching #4 in 2002. Member Duncan James (the scruffy one on the couch) came out as bisexual in 2009...


German singer Lena (Mayer-Landrut), who won the Eurovision title for Germany in 2010 with "Satellite" (a #1 single here), is back at #46 with "Mr. Arrow Key"....


The Dutch Eurovision entry, "Birds" by singer Anouk, arrives here at #49. She came in ninth...


German schlager singer Peter Wackel, from the Bavarian town of Erlangen, debuts at #54 with "Scheiss drauf ...Mallorca ist nur einmal im Jahr" ("Fuck It...Mallorca is only Once this Year"), referring to the Spanish island vacation spot his music is famous in...


Eurovision was held in Sweden this year, and the home country's entry, "You" by Robin Stjernberg, enters the chart here at #58. He came in 14th in the show...


 The single "Blue Uganda" featuring German hiphop acts Marteria, Maeckes, Lady Sykes, Bris Jean, Abrams, and Sylvester, comes in at #66. Marteria's last effort, "Lila Wolken", topped the chart here last year...


The Mediterranean island nation of Malta placed 8th in Eurovision with Gianluca Bezzina and his Jason Mraz-ish "Tomorrow", which is in at #70...(It was a personal fave of mine in the contest)...


The second Great Gatsby song to reach the chart this week is Lana Del Rey's "Young And Beautiful" at #74. Her "Video Games" topped the chart here in 2011...


Icelandic singer Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson came in 17th in Eurovision with the song that is at #75, "Ég á Líf" ("I Am Alive")...


The former British #1 hit "Need U (100%)" by Duke Dumont with A.M.E. crosses over to Germany as it debuts at #77...


Dina Garipova came in 5th at Eurovision representing Russia with "What If", and song debuts here at #78...


One notch below Dina is the Italian entry to Eurovision, "L'Essenziale" ("the Essential") by Marco Mengoni (a winner of that country's X Factor), at #79. Marco placed 7th in the competition...



The song "Marry Me" from Finland's Krista Siegfrids got 24th place at Eurovision, and arrives here at #84. Check out the adorbs "gay" version by clicking here...


Greece may have its troubles as a country, but their solution, "Alcohol Is Free" by Koza Mostra & Agathonas Iakovidis, lands at #85. It came in sixth at Eurovision (how?)...but yes, they're hot, and there's kilts...


Roberto Bellarosa, who won The Voice in Belgium, saw his entry to Eurovision "Love Kills" come in 12th, and arrives on the German chart at #90...


German-American singer Arlissa, who resides in London, has the final debut at #93 with "Sticks And Stones", which went to #48 in the UK...


That's it for the top-100.....as a sidenote, the song that came in second, Farid Mammadov's "Hold Me" from the country of Azerbaijan (the winning country two years ago), comes in right below the chart at #101...Since it was a fave of me, here it is...


(The only other of the top-10 not to make the German chart at all was the third-place finisher Zlata Olgevich with "Gravity"..)
