Brit Sweep: June 10, 2013...


Hey gang, I'm back from DC and a little late, but wanted to throw up my recap of the official sales charts over in Britain, as Robin Thicke holds on to #1 with "Blurred Lines"..

The top entry of the week at #6 is Simon Cowell's attempt to recreate One Direction-mania with the fourth-place X Factor finalists Union J with their first official single "Carry You". Meh.

Afro-hiphop Fuse ODG, from London, comes in at #7 with his first hit, "Antenna" featuring Wyclef Jean, a combo of tribal beats and EDM synths with vocals Autotuned to within an ounce of its life...



The Voice is in full swing in the UK, and the most-buzzed performance of the first live show was Northern Irish singer Leah McFall, who turns in a slightly overaffected but novel treatment of the disco classic "I Will Survive", and the single makes it on the charts at #16...


Dutch dance producer/remixer Afrojack scores his third top-30 single as a lead artist in Britain as "As Your Friend" featuring Chris Brown checks in at #21. The track topped the dance chart in the States earlier this year...


Irish alternative rock band Kodaline place their second top-40 single as "Love Like This" arrives at #22. It follows "High Hopes", which peaked at #16 earlier in the year...This is my "Brit Pick of the Week"...


Keith Lemon, the fey musical alter-ego of British comedian Leigh Francis, is at #52 with "I Wanna Go On You". He is returning to host the "panel game show" of Through The Keyhole this year...


American Idol winner from two seasons ago Phillip Phillips finally crosses over to these shoes at #60 with his US top-10 pop hit "Home"...


Since Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop's worldwide smash "I Love It" hasn't been available in this country yet, a knockoff copy of the song by Loreen Harris is able to enter the chart at #74. It's so low-rent there's no audio or video clip to be found. No big loss...

Dutch jazz-pop singer Caro Emerald is a fave of mine, and her latest, "Liquid Lunch", arrives on the chart at #80. It's from her UK #1 album The Shocking Miss Emerald.


 The last entry at #98 is the fourth single from Irish rockers the Script's latest album #3. "Millionaires" was featured on The Voice, where lead singer Danny O'Donoghue is a mentor/judge...
