Pop Sweep: May 18, 2013...

Note: Welcome to post #2500. Wow. Thanks for everyone who's ventured into my corner of the web....

Hey gang, it's time to kick off today's five-part "Chart Sweeps" bringing you the new songs making their way on to the weekly music singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start out with the pop charts...

On the big chart, the Billboard Hot 100, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis score their second #1 hit with "Can't Hold Us" featuring Ray Dalton. It follows "Thrift Shop", which still stands in the top-10 at #6...

The top debut of the week is some good news for country singer Billy Currington, who was arrested a couple weeks back on charges stemming from what seems like a dickhole tourboat operator encroaching Billy's property so people could gawk. The charges involved could get him real jail time, so I really hope he's acquitted (no physical harm was ever done, and that tourboat guy clearly was trying to harrass him). "Hey Girl" comes in at #75. Out of his eight singles to reach the Hot 100, 2010's "Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer" came so close to the Top-40 peaking at #41.

The fourth single from Carrie Underwood's fourth album Blown Away, "See You Again", reaches the Hot 100 at #90. She topped this list back in 2005 with her American Idol "winner's single", "Inside Your Heaven"...

Newcomer Arianna gets some help from Mr. Worldwide, Pitbull, for her first hit "Sexy People (The Fiat Song)" at #97....

The fourth and final entry on the big chart at #99 is L.A. synthpop duo Capital Cities with their #2  rock airplay hit "Safe And Sound", my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

And now for the pop radio charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 format, Pink climbs to #1 with "Just Give Me A Reason" featuring Nate Ruess of fun...

The high debut at #36 is Chris Brown with his newest, "Fine China"...

West Coast hip-hop trio Drop City Yacht Club arrive at #39 with their debut track "Crickets" featuring R&B singer Jeremih...

The third and last debut here at #40 is rapper Drake with his former Hot 100 top-10 hit "Started From The Bottom"...(NSFW)

On the Adult-Top 40 pop chart, the aforementioned "Just Give Me A Reason" spends a second week at the top..

The sole new entry on the list at #38 is Sara Bareilles with last week's "pop pick", "Brave". She went to #1 on this chart in 2007 with "Love Song"..

Lastly, on the older-skewing Adult Contemporary, or "easy-listening" format, the folk-rock of the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" spends a third week on top, while there are no debuts on the chart...

That's it for the first part of today's journey...I'll return with the latest on rock radio next...
