Pop Sweep: May 11, 2013...


Hey gang, better late than never, so here we go with the first of this week's "chart sweeps" bringing you the newest songs reaching Billboard magazine's weekly singles charts. As always, I'll start out on the pop side of the house...

On the "big chart", the all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100, Pink along with Nate Ruess from fun top the chart for a third week with "Just Give Me A Reason"...

The top debut of the week marks the return of "naughties" R&B queen Ciara, who had 11 top-10 soul hits in the first decade of the new millenium. On the pop side, she went to #1 with her debut single "Goodies" in 2004. She's back at #35 in her first week with her latest, "Body Party", her first top-40 hit since "Love Sex Magic" four years ago...

Miami-based DJ Khaled returns at #55 with "No New Friends". As a "lead artist", Khaled has had five pop top-40 hits, with his three-million-selling "I'm On One" peaking at #10 in 2011 The new track has the same entourage of rappers on it with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Rick Ross...(NSFW)


Sara Bareilles has been keeping a low-ish profile since her stint on the sadly not-renewed acappella singing competition The Sing-Off ended, but now she's in at #61 with a new track, "Brave", from her upcoming July release The Blessed Unrest. In 2007 her debut hit "Love Song" went to #4 on the Hot 100...This smart yet accessible track is my "Pop Pick of the Week"...


A new movie version of the classic novel The Great Gatsby arrives in theatres next weekend, and the first single from its soundtrack, "Young And Beautfiul" by Lana Del Rey, was co-written by the film's director Baz Luhrmann along with the singer. It comes in at #82, her second pop hit after "Video Games" went to #91 in 2011...


Rapper T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records gets a hit as the "Hustle Gang", featuring himself, B.o.B., Kendrick Lamar, and Kris Stephens enters the chart at #88....(NSFW)


The final debut on the big chart is country jam kings the Zac Brown Band, as their third single from their Uncaged album, "Jump Right In" pops in at #99. Their first nine offiical releases made the top-40 on the Hot 100, with "Knee Deep" going to #18 in 2011...


...and now on to the pop radio charts...

On the Mainstream Pop Radio Chart, Rihanna spends a second week on top with "Stay" featuring Mikky Ekko...

The top entry of the week here at #27 is singer/songwriter Jason Derulo with his newest, "The Other Side"...


Newcomer Nikki Williams, who co-wrote Demi Lovato's current top-10 hit "Heart Attack", comes in at #37 with "Glowing"...


French electro-house cult heroes Daft Punk enter at #38 with "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams on vocals (and Chic leader Nile Rodgers on guitar)...


California pop duo MKTO, who features Malcolm Kelly from the TV shows Lost and Nickelodeon's Gigantic, arrive at #40 with "Thank You", which has gone to #2 in Australia...



On the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format list, Pink reaches #1 with the aforementioned "Just Give Me A Reason"...

Swedish electro-dance duo Icona Pop shimmy in at #36 with their top-10 Hot 100 hit "I Love It"...(NSFW)


Pop/rock group Plain White T's return at #40 with "Should've Gone To Bed". The Chicagoans topped this chart in 2006 with "Hey There Delilah"...



Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" chart,  The Lumineers hold on to #1 with "Ho Hey" for a second week...

The sole entry on this chart as the #30 base position is American Idol Phillip Phillips with the followup to his #1 AC hit "Home", "Gone, Gone, Gone"...
