Songoftheday 4/16/13 - Stayed up endless nights, like some Frankenstein...

Michael Sembello - "Automatic Man"
from the album Bossa Nova Hotel (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #34 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's Song of the Day is by singer/songwriter/bear hunk Michael Sembello, who had his big breakthrough in 1983 courtesy of the movie Flashdance which featured his #1 hit "Maniac". After its success he released his Bossa Nova Hotel album, and from it came another hit with "Automatic Man" written with his brother Danny and David Batteau. Behold the ursine Xanadu!

"Automatic Man" spent just a couple weeks in the top-40, and the album made it to the top-half of the chart. It would be Sembello's last time as an artist, although he would continue to work in music releasing albums as well as producing and writing for others. These days he's working more in the world-music style.

..and just because, here's Dick Clark interviewing Michael...
