Songoftheday 3/12/13 - The deception with tact just what are you trying to say?...

The Fixx - "One Thing Leads To Another"
from the album Reach The Beach (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's Song of the Day is another of my all-time favorites from the 80s, and it's by the British new-wave group The Fixx, who scored their first top-40 hit in the summer of 1983 with "Saved By Zero". They followed up that single with one that would be exponentially more popular, and their biggest hit to date - the funky snark of "One Thing Leads To Another"...

If I told you I would play this song on cassette repeat for an afternoon, I wouldn't be lying. I was obsessed with this jam.

"One Thing..." would become the Fixx's sole top-10 single, went to the runner-up position on the rock chart, and was their first and biggest dance hit at #14. But surprisingly, the song stalled all the way down at #86 on the British singles chart - I still have no clue why the band got no love from their countrymen.

Actor Steven Strait covered the song for his movie Sky High in 2005..

It was also recorded by electronica act Color Theory for a tribute album the same year...

Electro-metal act Powerman 5000 also took on the song in 2011 for a covers album...

Lastly, here's the Fixx themselves from 1983 in Denver's Rainbow Music Hall...

...and again from last year going strong...

Up tomorrow: Remember to groove, say 60s protopunk holdouts.
