French Sweep: March 26, 2013...

Good afternoon, gang, it's time to cross the Atlantic once more to check out the new songs making their way on to the official sales charts in France this week, as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hang in for an eighth week at #1 with "Thrift Shop"...

Rocketing in at #3 for the high entry of the week is rapper Matire Gims from the group Sexion D'Assaut, with his biggest solo hit yet, "J'me Tire" ("I Draw"). Born in Zaire, he was just on the chart with "Meurtre Par Strangulation"...

Surprisingly, the first charting single for iconic pop duo Simon & Garfunkel arrives at #36 as the pair enter with "The Sounds Of Silence" from 1965...

The French musical charity collective Les Enfoires have the biggest album in this country this week, and a couple of the tracks make it on to the singles list. First, at #44 is "Jeanne"...

...while at #55 is Les Enfoires version of "Someone Like You"...

Another older track making the chart at #58 is British art-rock group Antony And The Johnsons with "Fistful Of Love" from their 2005 I Am A Bird album. In 2009 they had a top-40 hit with "Another World"....

Also spending its first week on the chart is Tears For Fears with their 1982 single "Mad World". In their heyday they had seven top-40 hits in France, though the highest, "Laid So Low", only made it to #15 in 1992...

The next entry from Les Enfoires at #95 is "Place Des Grand Hommes" ("Place Of Great Men") ...

...and the final entry at #99 is Les Enfoires with "Donne-moi le Temps" ("Give Me The Time")...

That does it for this week's French musical rendezvous...I'll be back later with the latest in Germany...
