French Sweep: March 19, 2013...






Hey gang, it's time to cross the Atlantic again for this weeks sampling of the records making their debut on the official music singles charts in France this week, as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis check in for a seventh week on top with "Thrift Shop"...

The week's big winner at #7 is Paris dance producer Guillame Atlan, who records under the moniker the Supermen Lovers, with his second top-10 single "C'est Bon", featuring Herr Styler & Cristine. His first, "Starlight", came twelve years ago, when it reached #2 in 2001...

 Americans mostly know Vanessa Paradis from her 14-year relationship with actor Johnny Depp, but in her home country she's a super star singer, and she returns at #24 with her latest, "Love Song". She's had five top-10 hits in France, with "Joe Le Taxi" going to #1 in 1987...


British singer Dido arrives at #64 with her newest, "No Freedom". She has been in the top-10 twice in her career so far as a lead artist, with "Here With Me" reaching #1 in 1999...


Belgian dance band Milk Inc., who are huge in their own country, come on to the French chart at #80 with their cover of the Indeep classic club hit from 1982 "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life". In 1996, they took "La Vache" to #8 on this chart...



French singer Margaux Avril debuts at #86 with "L'air de Rien" ("Nonchalantly"), her first hit...


Marseilles-based hip-hop group Psy 4 de la Rime come in at #89 with "Visage De La Honte" ("Face of Shame"). The Comoran/Moroccan quartet has been in the top-40 here twice...


Nice native Jenifer, who is one of the mentor/judges on France's version of The Voice, has a successful career with 14 top-40 hits, with nine of those going to the top-10, and her cover of "Gimme Gimme Gimme" topping the chart in 2002. She's back at #90 with "Les Jours Electriques" ("Electric Days")...


A contestant from that show, Angelina Wismes, comes in at #97 with "Mon Enfance" ("My Childhood"). The video is unembeddable, but you can check it out by clicking here. It's a cover of a song by Parisian singer Barbara from the 60s..

American dubstep king Skrillex scores his third top-100 hit in France at #99 with "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites"....


The last debut of the week at #100 is Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen with "Tonight I'm Getting Over You". She took her "Call Me Maybe" to the top of the chart here last year...
