Rock Sweep: March 2, 2013...


I'm back to party two of this week's "chart sweeps", sampling the songs debuting on Billboard magazine's various singles charts.

On the all-inclusive Rock Airplay chart, Muse hangs on for an eleventh non-consecutive week with "Madness"....

The top debut at #40 is the first single from L.A. indie-pop band Fitz & The Tantrums upcoming sophomore effort, More Than Just A Dream. "Out of My League" includes the album title in the lyrics. They had gone to #33 in 2011 with the stellar "Moneygrabber"...

Entering at #45 is the fourth single from hard rock band Shinedown's Amaryllis set, "I'll Follow You". The song is already in the 20s on both the Mainstream and Active Rock formats. Since the Rock Airplay (then Rock Songs) chart came in in 2008, they have topped the chart once, with "The Crow And The Butterfly" in 2010...


The last entry on the big rock list at #48 is the single from Green Day's third in their triad of albums, Tre!. "X-Kid" Just like Shinedown, it's also in the top-30 on the Active and Mainstream rock charts...



,,,and now for the individual format charts...

On the Mainstream Rock chart, Alice In Chains climbs to #1 with "Hollow" which becomes their fourth to reach the top here, which is notable that three of those were since the band got back together in 2009 after the passing of lead singer Layne Stanley...

Corey Taylor's side project from Slipknot, Stone Sour follow up their #2 MR hit "Absolute Zero" at #35 with "Do Me A Favor", the first single from their upcoming House of Gold & Bones - Part 2 set due in April...


Ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash follows his two big rock hits, including the #1 "You're A Lie", with "Anastacia" at #39 featuring Myles Kennedy (vocalist from Creed spinoff Alter Bridge) & The Conspirators. ..



Meanwhile, on the Modern Rock/Alternative Rock format list, Muse's 19-week reign on top is broken finally as Imagine Dragons claim their first #1 hit with "Radioactive"....

Aiming the highest at #31 is the return of indietronica champs the Postal Service with their first new song on a chart in eight years, with "A Tailored Line Of String". Featuring help from vocalist Jenny Lewis from the group Rilo Kiley, this single is from the upcoming 10th anniversary re-release of their Give Up album in April...



Scottish group Biffy Clyro descend on the charts at #34 with "Black Chandelier", their second alt-rock hit single. In 2010, "Many Of Horror" went to #32 (before being used as UK X Factor fodder). "Chandelier" recently made the top-20 on the British pop chart...


French dance-rock act C2C topped their country's chart last year with the song coming in at #35, "Down The Road".


The last entry at #39 is the aforementioned Fitz & The Tantrums' "Out Of My League"...


At the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, the Lumineers stay at #1 for an eighth non-consecutive week with "Stubborn Love"...

The sole debut at this list at #39 is Walk The Moon's "Tightrope", which has already reached the top-15 on the modern rock chart....



Over on the harder-edged Active Rock chart, All That Remains remain on top for a third week with "Stand Up", while the aforementioned Stone Sour and Slash singles are the top two entries at #32 and #38 respectively...

The other debut on the chart is by Swedish 'melodic death metal' band Avatar with "Smells Like A Freak Show" at #40...


Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock format, Alice In Chains stay at #1 for a second week with "Hollow"...

The top entry at #23 is Atlanta's heavy metal band Sevendust with "Decay", which also is in the top-20 on the mainstream and active rock lists...


Grunge veterans Soundgarden come in at #24 with "By Crooked Steps", the follow-up to their #1 HR hit "Been Away Too Long". The new track also appears in the top-20 on the Active Rock list, #29 on Mainstream Rock, and #38 on the combined Rock Airplay chart...


The final entry on this chart at #25 is the 'supergroup' of Corey Taylor, Dave Grohl, Rick Nielsen, and Scott Reeder from the Sound City documentary, "From Can to Can't". It's already top-20 on the Mainstream and Active rock formats, and top-40 on Modern Rock and the combined airplay charts...
