Aussie Sweep: February 6, 2013...


It's time to check out the latest songs reaching the top-100 chart in Australia this week, as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis reign at #1 for a third week with "Same Love" and stay on at #2 with "Thrift Shop"...

The top new entry at #39 is dance/reggae fusion act Major Lazer with "Get Free" featuring Amber Coffman of the Dirty Projectors. Out of nowhere this is becoming a worldwide hit (save the US). Grade: C-

British critics' fave Alt-J arrive at #41 with "Breezeblocks", their first hit in this country, and this video is disturbingly compelling, I'm still trying to figure out its Memento-style plot..Grade: B+



Sydney-based electronic music artist Flume has the #1 album in Australia this week, and a track from that, "Sleepless" featuring Jezzabell Doran, is in at #52. Grade: C+


The #1 single in Britain right now, "Get Up (Rattle)" by the Bingo Players with the Far East Movement, debut in this country at #58. This is the Dutch group's first time on the chart. Grade: B-


Aussie indie-rockers Tame Impala from the western city of Perth score two debuts this week - first with "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" at #74...Grade: B+


...and then with "Elephants" at #77. Grade: B-


American rockers Paramore come in at #86 with their latest, "Now", They have had three top-40 singles in Australia, with "Decode" reaching #12 in 2008. Grade: C


Los Angeles alt-rockers Youngblood Hawke take their US top-7 rock hit "We Come Running" on to the Aussie chart at #91. Grade: B+


Justin Bieber's new song from his Believe Acoustic set, "Nothing Like Us", comes in at #95. The album is the #2 seller here this week. Grade: C-


The final debut at #100 is Northern Irish modern rock band Two Door Cinema Club with "Sun". Grade: B+
