Rock Sweep: January 26, 2013...

Hey gang, I'm back with part two of today's "chart sweeps" of the newest songs making their way on to the weekly music charts in Billboard magazine. This time out it's the latest on the rock radio formats...

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Muse remains at #1 for a sixth non-consecutive week with "Madness"...

The top entry at #46 is hard rock outfit Papa Roach with "Where Did The Angels Go", the second single from their Connection album. The first, "Still Swinging", made it to #22 last year, and this one is already in the top-20 on the Mainstream Rock format. It's a little more accessible for them, and works well headbanging in the car listening..Grade B

Canadians Three Days Grace also debut with the second single from their latest album, "The High Road", at #47. It follows "Chalk Outline", which went to #5 and is still in the top-10...Grade: C+

Halestorm, from Pennsylvania, enter at #48 with "Freak Like Me", the third single from their sophomore set The Strange Case Of.... The other two reached the top-20..Grade: B

The last debut on the chart is heavy metal act Nonpoint at #49 with "Left For You". The Florida band celebrates a half year on the mainstream rock chart still in the top-20 with this song...Grade B

Over on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio format list, the aforementioned "Madness" is also #1 for a fifteenth week at #1, putting it in a tie with Marcy Playground's "Sex And Candy" and Linkin Park's "What I've Done" for fourth place for the longest run at #1....

The single debut this week at #36 is by the Mowgli's with their first hit "San Francisco". It's my favorite of the whole bunch, since upbeat and fun rock songs that aren't twee are rare in these days of angst. Grade: B+

Meanwhile, on the Mainstream Rock radio format, Soundgarden hang on for a sixth week at #1 with "Been Away Too Long", and there are no new songs on the chart...

At the Triple-A ("adult album alternative", or "hipster rock") chart, The Lumineers reign for a fourth week with "Stubborn Love"...

The top entry at #27 is by indie-pop band Milo Greene with "1957", from their self-titled debut album...Grade: B+

Texan alt-rockers Alpha Rev arrive at #29 with "Sing Loud"...Grade A-

The last entry at #30 is "February Seven", the followup to the Avett Brothers' top-5 AAA hit "Live & Die" from last year...Grade B+

Over on the Active Rock format, Avenged Sevenfold jump to #1 with their single "Carry On"...

The single entry on this list at #39 is hard rock group Surrender the Fall with "Some Kind Of Perfect"...Grade C+

Lastly, on the Heritage rock list, Three Days Grace spend a twelfth non-consecutive week with "Chalk Outline"....

The two debuts are the aforementioned "Where Did The Angels Go" by Papa Roach at #23, and "The High Road" by Three Days Grace at #25.

That's it for the rock side...I'll be back in an hour and a half with the newest on R&B radio. Rock on!
