French Sweep: January 15, 2013...

Hey gang, it's time to check out the new songs making their first appearance on the top-100 in the official music chart in France this week. Incredibly, PSY's "Gangnam Style" holds on to #1 for a fifth non-consecutive week.

The top debut this week is by the American hip-hop team of rapper Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis with their US top-5 hit "Thrift Shop" feautring singer Wanz. The song rockets in at #30, and needless to say, is probably the best chance for a novelty single to finally take PSY out. Grade: A+

Jumping in at #45 is Swedish DJ Avicii, who took his Etta James' sampling "Levels" to #14 last year. He's back with "I Could Be The One" featuring Dutch producer/DJ Nicky Romero. The video of this alone gets an A+. Grade: B

The final debut at #100 is French rap group 1995, with their second chart hit "RĂ©el" ("Real"). The old-school hip-hop track comes with the third awesome video of this post. Grade: B

That does it for this week's French recap, I'll return latest today with the newest over the border in Germany. Au revoir!
