Rock Sweep: December 29, 2012...

Hey gang, time for part two of today's "Chart Sweeps" checking out the latest songs making their way on to Billboard magazine's weekly music charts. This time out it's the newest on rock radio.

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Mumford & Sons climb back up to #1 for a tenth non-consecutive week with "I Will Wait"...

The sole debut on this list this week if by Los Angeles-based indie-rock group Family Of The Year with their first hit "Hero" at #49. The song is already top-20 on the Triple-A format, and the sunny, 70's-inspired song reminds me of Gilbert O'Sullivan (maybe the vocals?)...

Meanwhile, over on the Modern Rock/Alternative format, "Madness" remains at the top for an eleventh week for Muse....

Irish-American punkers from Boston the Dropkick Murphys arrive at #33 with their holiday tune "The Season's Upon Us"...

The Neighbourhood from California are at #38 with "Sweater Weather"...

Lastly, American Idol reigning winner Philip Phillips comes in at #39 with his #1 Triple-A/top-10 pop hit "Home"...

Over at the Mainstream Rock format list, Soundgarden's "Been Away Too Long" spends a second week at #1...

Pennsylvania rock group Halestorm had a good 2012, scoring two #2 hits at this format, "Love Bites (So Do I)" and "I Miss The Misery". They are back at #37 with "Freak Like Me"...

The other new entry is by Big Wreck, a Boston-area band led by Canadian Ian Thornley, and they debut at #38 with "Albatross"...

On the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") radio format, Philip Phillips' aforementioned "Home" is at #1 for a sixth week...

Mumford & Sons follow up their #1 "I Will Wait" with "Lover Of The Light" at #24...

The other new entry is by ingenue Lana Del Rey, with her epic song from her Paradise EP, "Ride"...

At the Active Rock format, Soundgarden's "Been Away Too Long" climbs to the top for its first week on this chart, while Halestorm's aforementioned "Freak Like Me" is the top debut at #37...

Coming in at #38 is Dallas-based alt-metal act Drowning Pool with "Saturday Night". They took "Feel Like I Do" to #2 here in 2010...

Finally, British mod-rockers Muse cross over to this format at #39 with "Madness". They've previously charted one other song here, "Uprising" in 2010...

Finally, on the Heritage Rock format chart, "Chalk Outline" stays at #1 for a tenth non-consecutive week for Three Days Grace.

The top debut at #23 is Adelita's Way, who are a big act at the Active Rock format, with their first hit here, "Alive"...

The other entry is a true "heritage" act, Lynyrd Skynyrd, with "Homegrown" at #24. I guess now that they're at Roadrunner Records, they're now given the "Nickelback treatment"...

That does it for this installment, I'll be back with the latest on R&B radio... Rock on!
