Rock Sweep: November 24, 2012...


Onward to part two of this week's "chart sweeps", where I sample the new songs making their way on to the weekly music charts at Billboard magazine. This time out its the latest on rock radio...

On the general Rock Airplay chart, Mumford & Sons' "I Will Wait" hangs on to #1 for a seventh week...

The top debut this week is by the folk-rock trio the Lumineers, with the followup single to their #1 hit "Ho Hey". Their new one, "Stubborn Love" is at #41, and it's already at #14 on Triple-A radio...

Twin indie darlings Tegan & Sara enter at #45 with "Closer". It's their first hit on the main rock chart, and it moves 38-30 on the modern rock format...


L.A. metal band Five Finger Death Punch come in at #47 with "The Pride", the fourth charting single from their latest album, American Capitalist. The band's biggest on here (then called "Rock Songs") is their cover of "Bad Company", which went to #7 in 2010...


British rockers Young Guns are at #48 with a track they have already taken to the top-20 on the mainstream rock format, "Bones"...


..and finishing up on the lighter side of things, singer/songwriter Tristan Prettyman comes in at #49 with "My Oh My", which is already in the top-10 at Triple-A....


Meanwhile, over on the Modern Rock/Alternative format chart, Muse is at #1 with "Madness" for a sixth non-consecutive week...

 Shinedown claim the biggest debut at #37 with "Enemies". They took "Second Chance" to #1 in 2010...


..while at #38 is Gold Fields with "Dark Again (Lights Out)"...


On the mainstream rock format chart, Three Days Grace's "Chalk Outline" is on top for a tenth week...

Canadian rockers Danko Jones debut at #37 with "Just A Beautiful Day". their fifth charting hit in the US.


Otherwise claim the other entry on the chart at #38 with "I Don't Apologize (1000 Pictures)"...


On the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, American Idol's Philip Phillips moves to #1 with "Home".

Churchill is the big debut here at #23 with "Change", a song they've had on the alternative charts for seven weeks now...


Australian rockers Atlas Genius come in at #24 with their first hit "Trojans"..



Texas guitarist Gary Clark Jr. is at #27 with "Ain't Messin' Around"...


Finally, pop/rock group OneRepublic debut at #29 with "Feel Again". Their "Secrets" went to #28 on this chart...



On the Active Rock format, the aforementioned "Chalk Outline" draws a ninth week at #1...

Danko Jones' "It's A Beautiful Day" pops in at #35 here...

Debuting at #39 is post-grungers Staind with "Something To Remind You". They went to #1 here with "Not Again" last year.


Lastly, at #40 is Stone Sour with "Gone Sovereign". The band topped this chart with "Say You'll Haunt Me" in 2010...


Finally, on the Heritage Rock chart, Three Days Grace make it six weeks on top with "Chalk Outline".

The single debut on this format is Danish metal rockers Volbeat with "Heaven Nor Hell" at #24. Their "A Warrior's Call" made it to the top-20 here earlier this year...
