Kraut Sweep: November 13, 2012...


It's time now for this week's 'sweep' of the newest songs making their way on to the official music sales charts in Germany. This week Rihanna's "Diamonds" hangs on to #1 for a second week.

The top debut belongs to German punk band Die Artze (translated to "The Doctors"), with "Ist Das Noch Punkrock?" ("Is That Still Punk Rock?"). They have had three #1 hits here, the last being "Junge" ("Boy") in 2007.  They remind me a lot of Green Day...

Pop group Pur, from the southern city of Bietigheim-Bissigen, enter at #33 with "Der bestmögliche Versuch" ("The Best Test")....


Australian singer Lenka scores her second German top-40 hit as "Everything At Once" comes in at #39. She took "The Show" to #23 here in 2009...


Swedish singer Loreen, who won this year's Eurovision song contest, pops in at #41 with "My Heart Is Refusing Me". Her winning song "Euphoria" topped the chart here...


German rapper Moses Pelham, who was a part of the group Glashaus, strikes out on his own at #45 with "Für die Ewigkeit" ("For Eterntiy")...


Veteran British rock singer Joe Cocker is back at #50 with his new single "Fire It Up". His biggest hit in this country is his version of the Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends", which went to #3 here in 1968..


The biggest German-language group to cross over to America, Nena, are at #52 with "Das ist nicht alles" ("That's Not All"). As a solo artist or part of a group, she has gone to #1 twice in her country, with the classic "99 Luftballons" ("99 Red Balloons") in 1983 and solo with "Liebe Ist" ("Love Is") in 2005...


New Zealander Willy Moon's iPod-shilling rocker "Yeah Yeah" debuts on the chart at #55...


Swedish singer Ola comes in at #77 with "I'm In Love", his eighth #1 in his home country...


The final debut here this week is by Kelly Clarkson, who enters at #89 with her latest, "Catch My Breath", from her first greatest hits set. She's had three top-10 singles in Germany, with "Because of You" going to #4 in 2005...
