Robbed Hit of the Week 10/15/12 - Scandal's "Goodbye To You"...

Scandal - "Goodbye To You"
from the EP Scandal (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #65

This week's "robbed hit" is by the New York-based rock band Scandal, who were huge in the tri-state area with their debut EP. The first single, "Goodbye To You", with Patty Smyth belting out her best kiss-off tune, while writer Zack Smith and the other boys in the band gave the other local faves the Hooters a run for the money with their new-wave-ish synth riffs..

While the song made the top-5 on the rock radio chart, it stalled down in the bottom half of the pop charts, probably due to people buying the EP instead of the single. Patty and the band would rectify that with their next album, and the top-10 hit "The Warrior".

The Australian girl-band The Veronicas covered the song in 2007...

And on my old favorite singing competition, the Sing-off, the Backbeats sung "Goodbye To You" as their exit song (forward to 6:37)

That's it for tonight....check back tomorrow for another Song of the Day, candletime, and my French and German chart sweeps. Have a great night!

Probably my favorite robbed hit out of all the songs you've posted for it. Nice intro to the band for when they did break through, though. This video was on MTV CONSTANTLY.

I know, they were made for MTV because Patty was as awesome a looker as she was a voice. I need to go back and try to find the band on VH1's Bands Reunited, I never saw that episode...
