French Sweep: October 30, 2012...






I've got the latest songs on tap making their debut this week accord to the French official music charts. This week Korean phenomenon PSY conquers yet another country as "Gangnam Style" moves up to #1 for its first week.

The top debut this week is by singer/dancer M. Pokora and singer Tal, with their collaboration "Envole Moi" ("Fly Me") at #14. Pokora, who I would compare to a French Ricky Martin in his vocals and presence, topped the charts in this country with "Dangerous" in 2008, while Tal was in the top-5 earlier this year with the fun "Le Sens De La Vie" ("The Meaning Of Life"). The two of them are a great pair together...

Actor/singer Patrick Bruel (birth name Maurice Benguigui), originally from Algeria, is a big star in their movie houses, as well as on the charts, where he went to #1 with "Qui a le Droit" ("Who Has The Right") in 1991, and he's back at #35 with "Lequel de Nous" ("Which of Us")...


London-based alt-rock band Placebo are in at #53 with "B3". They've have three top-40 hits in France, with "Protege-Moi" ("Protect Me") peaking at #18...


One rung under that at #54 is Justin Bieber, with his latest "Beauty and a Beat" . The Biebs topped the charts here with "Baby" in 2010...


Robbie Williams jumps in at #65 with his new single "Candy". He's taken four singles to the top-10 in France, with "Feel" his biggest peaking at #6 in 2002...


Algerian/Canadian singer Zeho debuts at #85 with "Boloss", a French slang term for a loser, like an internet troll. She had a #2 single here in 2008 with "C'est Chalou" (more slang, for "That's Weird")...


The cast of the French musical 1789, Les Amants De La Bastille ("1789, the Lovers of the Bastille"), is about the times of the French Revolution, and two people from different classes falling in love. It has already put three singles on the charts, with "Ca Ira Mon Amour" ("My Love Will Win") going up to #11.The latest, "Tomber Dans Les Yeux" ("Fall Into His Eyes"), comes in at #88...


German rapper Carlprit was born in the southern African nation of Zimbabwe, and he gets his first French top-100 hit at #91 with "Fiesta"...


Kevin Bonnet, who records under the moniker Keen'V went to #3 in France last year with "J'aimerais Trop" ("I Would Too"), and he's back at #92 with "Elle T'a Mate'" ("It Was You Girl")...
