Dance Sweep: October 20, 2012...

Hey guys, thanks for hangin' in there, it's time to close out this week's turbulent "chart sweeps" with the latest songs making the Billboard magazine dance charts. I've written earlier about the dramatic changes in chart methodology the trade pub is making to include sales, streaming, and all-around airplay to the individual genre charts for Rock, Country, and R&B (also, Latin). I'm surprised and quite a bit relieved per se that the editors chose not (for now) to do this to the dance charts, since the independent dance label business would be disappeared quite nicely with that change, and I don't trust the decision making to what constitutes a "dance song". They did do one thing, it seems, to retire the "Global Dance Tracks" chart, so it seems like our "dance sweeps" will just be the Club play and the Airplay charts.

On the DJ polled "Hot Dance Club Play" chart,  Pink's "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" moves to #1, making it her second chart topper on this list.

The top debut this week is A-list DJ/producer Dave Aude, who has remixed tracks from almost every major pop music star you can think of. He's also topped the charts four times as a lead credit artist. One of those times, "Figure It Out", featured singer "Isha Coco", whose real name is Luciana Caprosso. Luciana joins Dave again under her real name with "Something For The Weekend" at #42. There's a couple different mixes for the song, ranging from party-style electro-house to spacey trance. I always go for the party, though...

Coming in at #46 is Scottish DJ/producer Calvin Harris, who topped the club chart supporting Rihanna on "We Found Love" at the end of last year. He's back with another song from his upcoming 18 Months album, featuring Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine, and man, is this epic. Florence is in fine voice, and her androgynous turn in the video is teh awesome. I this could get her the pop hit she so deserves...

The last new song at #49 is by American Idol finalist Kimberley Locke, who placed behind Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken in 2003. Her last non-holiday studio album, Based On A True Story, scored her three #1 dance club hits with "Change", "Band Of Gold", and "Fall". Her latest, "Finally Free", is from her upcoming Four On The Floor set, and was co-written by Locke with another Idol finalist, Ace Young, and it's dramatic for sure, with Kimberley going all "Goodbye Earl" on an abusive man. I do wish her voice was a teensy bit less processed - she's got the chops, use them!

Meanwhile, over on the radio-monitored Dance Airplay/Mixshow chart, Zedd and Matthew Koma remain on top for a third week with "Spectrum".

The solitary debut on this format is the first hit by the DJ/producer Madeon, who hails from Nantes, the sixth biggest city in France, located in the western part of the country. He comes in at #24 with "The City"...

Since the Global Tracks is no more, why not check out the Dance Digital Songs list? Although the #1 spot is held by a certain K-pop star with "Gangnam Style"...

The one new entry at #21 is DJ Zedd, with "Fall Into The Sky" featuring vocals by Ellie Goulding. His #1 club/airplay hit "Spectrum" made it to #15 here...

That does it for tonight. Thanks so much again for stopping by, check out the other "sweeps" if you haven't, and let me know what you think! Cheers!
