8 of the 80s: 10/25/12...

Hey gang, it's time to take another trip back to the 80s, and this week I've got eight more nuggets from 1983, the year of the first flight of the space shuttle Challenger.

The Fixx - "Red Skies"
from the album Shuttered Room (1982)
Billboard peak: #101

Before "One Thing Leads To Another", this was the key to the bands eerie new-wave aurora, where futuristic battleground were a pastiche for the genre.

Bryan Ferry - "More Than This"
from the album Avalon (1982)
Billboard peak: #102

Bryan Ferry's serene classic was the band's most emotional moment, and its most mainstream. How it wasn't huge is beyond me.

Yello - "I Love You"
from the album You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess (1983)
Billboard peak: #103

The Swiss electronica duo's 1983 album was one of those I bought just for the title and cover art, and ended up loving anyway.

Devo - "That's Good"
from the album Oh, No! It's Devo (1982)
Billboard peak: 104

Devo's stab at early 80's mainsteam-pop-ish new wave. They still rock the clothes, though.

Ministry - "I Wanted To Tell Her"
from the album With Sympathy (1983)
Billboard peak: #106

Before the band got all dark and sinister, it was downright funky, and I actually prefer them this way. One of the albums I love that fans of a band mostly detest.

Zebra - "Tell Me What You Want"
from the album Zebra (1983)
Billboard peak: #107

Big Easy heavy metal rockers were huge in Long Island, and this would've been bigger if they put it out a year or so later.

 Spandau Ballet - "Lifeline"
from the album True (1982)
Billboard peak: #108

The band that looks like the Romney sons get their white boy funkiness on in this song off their US breakthrough album...

Sissy Spacek - "Lonely But Only For You"
from the album Hangin' Up My Heart (1982)
Billboard peak: #110

The actress scored herself a post-Coal Miner's Daughter country hit with this sweet song.

That does it for this flashback....thanks for coming, and I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, candletime, and my top-100 tunes for the week. Cheers!
