Rock Sweep: September 15, 2012...

Hey guys, time for part two of today's "Chart Sweeps" of the new music making their way onto the weekly Billboard magazine's singles chart. This time out it's the latest on rock radio, per their monitored charts.

On the Rock Songs chart (which combines Alternative, Mainstream, Hard Rock, Heritage, Active, and Triple-A rock radio), Green Day's "Oh Love" stays on top for a sixth non-consecutive week.

The high entry here is by alt-hard-rockers Stone Sour, who are led by Slipknot's Corey Taylor and Jim Root. They've reached the top of this aggregate chart once since its inception in 2009, with "Say You'll Haunt Me" in 2010. Their latest, "Absolute Zero", is already on the Mainstream Rock list, and debuts here at #33...(the clip features the song with "Gone Sovereign" segueing into it)...

L.A. rockers Grouplove are still in the top-10 with a song they took to #3 on Rock Songs, "Tongue Tied". They follow that up with a song already climbing the Modern Rock list, "Itching On A Photograph" at #43...

Two Door Cinema Club, a three-piece indie-electro-pop group from Northern Ireland, reached the top-40 here a year ago with "What You Know", and they return at #47 with a song from their sophomore album Beacon called "Sleep Alone" (already at #24 on Modern Rock)...

In This Moment is a rare female-led metalcore act from Los Angeles, and their single "Blood", which is already top-40 on Active and Mainstream Rock radio, comes on to Rock Songs at #50, their first time here...

Meanwhile over on the Mainstream Rock chart, Five Finger Death Punch's "Coming Down" returns to the #1 spot for a second non-consecutive week.

Two songs enter the mainstream list this week, and the first is by Danish heavy metal band Volbeat, whose last single "Still Counting" topped this chart this past summer. They return at #34 with "Heaven Nor Hell"....

The other debut of by Canadians Theory Of A Deadman, who have sent two songs to the top of the Mainstream Rock list, 2008's "Bad Girlfriend", and "Lowlife", from their current album, The Truth Is... The fifth single from that set, "Gentleman", comes in at #35...

Over on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio list, Alex Clare's "Too Close" spends a fourth week at #1.

The top debut here this week is by Canadian DJ/producer deadmau5, with his first single to make this chart. He's helped by a vocalist more experienced in the rock realm, Gerard Way from the band My Chemical Romance, who topped this list in 2004 with "Welcome To The Black Parade". Their new collaboration, from his upcoming set album title goes here, "Professional Griefers", is at #36...and this is so damn cool...

Las Vegas-based alt-rocker Imagine Dragons still reign in the MR top-5 with their debut hit, "It's Time", and it's joined at #38 with their second, "Radioactive"...

and another hot new band, Iceland's Of Monsters And Men, just left the Alternative top-10 with "Little Talks", and their followup, "Mountain Sound", arrives at #40...

And on the Triple-A (hipster-rock) radio chart, Mumford & Sons take a second week on top with "I Will Wait".

The highest of the two entries is by veteran Irish singer/songwriter Van Morrison, whose last time on any Billboard radio chart was back in 1993, when his remake of his former band Them's "Gloria" made the Mainstream Rock list. He's about to release another studio album, Born To Sing: No Plan B, in October, and its first single, "Open The Door (To Your Heart)", comes in at #28...(here's a minute & a half snippet)...

The other debut is by blue-eyed soul singer from Washington state Allen Stone, with his first hit at #29, "Sleep"...

Well that does it for the rock end of the spectrum, come back in an hour and a half, and I'll bring you the latest on the R&B charts. Rock On!
