Rock Sweep: October 6, 2012...

Hey folks, I'm finally back from my vacation jaunt, so thanks for coming back, it's time for part two of this today's "chart sweeps" of the latest songs making their way on to the week's music charts in Billboard magazine. This time out it's the newest on rock radio.

On the Rock Songs chart, the Lumineers spend a second week at #1 with the Bing-ad hit "Ho Hey"...

The big debut on the Rock Songs list is by Green Day, who apparently took the title of their newest single to heart at the iHeartRadio shindig in Las Vegas, resulting in Billie Joe Armstrong going to rehab. They've scored two #1s since this composite charts has been around in 2009, "Know Your Enemy" and their recent "Oh Love". "Let Yourself Go" debuts at #36, and it's from their CD that just came out last Tuesday, Uno!, and it's a welcome return to their more punk roots. It's also the top debut on the Alternative/Modern Rock radio specific chart at #34, and on the Active Rock chart at #38...

American Idol winner Philip Phillips is one of the few singers from the show to be getting play on rock radio, and his "winner's" single "Home" comes in at #45. It's already in the top-15 on Triple-A rock...

The last debut on the composite chart is by the Icelandic indie-rock group Of Monsters And Men, with the followup to their #3 rock hit "Little Talks", which is still in the top-10 on this chart. The new song, "Mountain Bound" at #48, is from their excellent album My Head Is An Animal, and has the same free-spirit folkie goodness to it, and the video brings the band to the forefront to distinguish from the animated miniatures from the first song's clip...

Meanwhile, over on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio chart, "Ho Hey" also spends a second week at #1 as well...

Debuting right under the Green Day single at #35 is Slipknot's Corey Taylor's side project Stone Sour, with a song that's already in the top-10 at mainstream rock radio, "Absolute Zero". Their song "Through Glass" has been their biggest alt-rock hit so far, peaking at #2 in 2006...

...and at #38 is hard rock band Anberlin, who at a chart-topping hit on this list back in 2008 with "Feel Good Drag". Their latest, "Someone Anyone", is from their upcoming set Vital...

On the Mainstream Rock radio tally, Three Days Grace hang on to #1 for a third week with "Chalk Outline"...

The top entry here is by Minneapolis hard rockers New Medicine, who chart the third single from their two-year-old album Race You To The Bottom, "Rich Kids" at #35. The second, the title track, made it to #19 last year. And as "lyric videos" go, this one cracks me up bigtime, which goes quite nicely with the playfulness of the track, with reminds me of the Offspring a bit...

The other debut here is by the Texas Hippie Coalition, who are in fact from northern Texas, with their brand of southern metal at #40 with "Turn It Up"...(complete with LOTS of strippers in this video)...

Over on the Triple-A radio (album adult alternative, of "hipster rock") chart, Mumford & Sons' "I Will Wait" spends a fifth week on top with "I Will Wait"...

The top new song here at #27 is by Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie and the Postal Service with his first solo hit "Teardrop Windows". With DCFC he topped this chart twice, with "I Will Possess Your Heart" and "You Are A Tourist".

Coming in at #29 is British folk-rock group the Dunwells with their first charting single, "I Could Be King"..

...and the final entry is by the alt-rock duo Black Keys, with "Little Black Submarines". It's the third single from their El Camino album; the first, "Lonely Boy", went to #1 here late last year.

On the Heritage Rock list, "Unity" by Shinedown rules for a ninth week, and there are no new songs this week.

...and lastly, over on the Active Rock Radio Chart, Three Days Graces' "Chalk Outline" hold on to #1 for a second week.

Besides the Green Day single, two other songs come in on this list. First, Phoenix-based alt-metal band Digital Summer score their first hit at #39 with "Forget You". It features Clint Lowery of the group Sevendust...

...and at #40 is veteran glam-rockers Kiss, with their latest, "Hell Or Hallelujah"....

Well, that's it for the rock side of the house, stay tuned, and shortly I'll be serving up the latest R&B songs on the radio....Rock on!
