French Sweep: September 11, 2012...


Thanks for dropping by, it's time to sample the newest music selling in France, according to their official music charts. This week Carly Rae Jepsen cannot be stopped as she reclaims the #1 position for the ninth non-consecutive week with "Call Me Maybe"...

The highest entry this week on the French charts is by rapper Canardo, who is from Trappes, which lies to the west of Paris. His first hit singe, "M'en Aller" ("Go Away"), features Tal, an Israeli-born singer who made the top-5 in France earlier this year with the really cool "Le Sens De La Vie", and the new single enters at #56...

Trance artists Stone & Van Linden enter at #65 with "Summerbreeze"..


Jamaican-American dancehall artist Shaggy topped the French charts back in 2000 with "It Wasn't Me", and he's back at #74 with a re-interpretation of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" featuring rapper Eve. The Lauper version never made the French chart back in it's original 1983 release, though it did make #3 here in 1994 in the "Hey Now" remix...


Joining Shaggy is another Jamaican-American reggae singer, Laza Morgan, with his first French hit single, "One By One" featuring Jamaican musician/producer Mavado, at #78...


French indie-reggae group Tryo had a top-10 hit five years ago with "Desole' Pour Hier Soir", and they return with the enviromental themed "Greenwashing" at #92...



The final entry this week is by American pop/rock group Maroon 5, with their followup to "Payphone", "One More Night" at #93. Their highest so far was the #3 hit "Moves Like Jagger" last year...
