7 of the 70s: 9/27/12...

Hey folks, it's time for another trip in the wayback machine to the land of the Brady Bunch and bell bottoms. This time out it's seven nuggets from 1979, the year the compact disc was demonstrated for the first time.

M - "Pop Muzik"
from the album New York-London-Paris-Munich (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1

One of the glorious one-hit wonders that ever was - no one it gets revived every ten years or so. There is absolutely nothing missing from this pop confection.

Robert John - "Sad Eyes"
from the album Robert John (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1

Falsetto king comes to cheer you all up.

Kiss - "I Was Made For Lovin' You"
from the album Dynasty (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #11

The glam-rock boys go full-on disco with no regrets in this party-rocker, the "hardest" disco jam around...

Maureen McGovern - "Different Worlds"
from the album Maureen McGovern (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #18

I watched Angie every week. I remember nothing but this theme song, which I sang along to.

Roger Voudouris - "Get Used To It"
from the album Radio Dream (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21

Early-80s "yacht rock" was preceded by this ultra-peppy number that sounds so straight-laced it's like stamped "made in Utah".

Yvonne Elliman - "Love Pains"
from the album Yvonne (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #34

On of the classic disc nuggets that is awesome in about 10 different versions, but most so by "Mary Magdelene" herself.

Sylvester - "I (Who Have Nothing)"
from the album Stars (1979)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #40

The legend's most serious work, but still made for the dancefloor. He could have done anything, if he didn't pass too soon.

That does is for today. Thanks for coming, and check back tomorrow for another "song of the day", candletime, and this week's top-100 tunes. Cheers!
