Sylvia - "Nobody"
from the album Just Sylvia (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15 (three weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 9

Today's Song of the Day is by Sylvia, a country singer born in Indiana. She got her big break working as a secretary in Nashville's Music Row, and released her first single, "You Don't Miss a Thing", which became a top-40 country single in 1979. A year later, she put out her first album, Drifter, which charted five singles, including her first top-10 ("Tumbleweed") and her first #1 hit ("Drifter").

But it was her sophomore effort, Just Sylvia, that put Sylvia onto mainstream radio, with her single "Nobody". The song about finding about her cheating love through crank calls, was written by Kyle Fleming and Dennis Morgan, and produced by her secretarial boss, Tom Collins...

The song was Sylvia's first and only pop hit, and sold over a million copies. It also topped the country chart, and made the top-5 on the adult-contemporary (soft-rock) chart. "Nobody" also was nominated for a Grammy for best female performance. and her album was her biggest seller, peaking at #2 on the country albums chart and #56 on the all-genre top-200 albums in Billboard.

Sylvia went on to be a medium-list country hitmaker in the 80s, charting six more top-10 singles, and still performs today in addition to counseling aspiring musicians.
