Rock Sweep: September 1, 2012...


Hey folks, thanks for dropping by, it's time for the second "chart sweep" of the week, where we sample the latest music debuting on Billboard magazine. This time out its the latest on rock radio.

On the Rock Songs chart, Green Day spend a fourth non-consecutive week at #1 with "Oh Love".

The highest debut here at #21, as well as on the Modern Rock/Alternative radio chart (at #26), is Canadian post-grunge band Three Days Grace, with their latest, "Chalk Outline", from their upcoming album Transit Of Venus, due in October. The group has placed two songs at #1 on Rock Songs since its start in 2009 ("Break" and "The Good Life"), and have also had three Modern Rock charttoppers (including 2003's "Just Like You")...

Guns N' Roses/Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash comes in at #43 with "Standing In The Sun", featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. Myles was formerly the lead singer of the Creed spinoff band Alter Bridge, and the two had previous hit #12 on rock radio with "You're A Lie"...


British indie-rock group Morning Parade debut at #48 with "Headlights", a song that peaked at #24 on Modern Rock last month...


Over on the Modern Rock/Alternative specific chart, Alex Clare is at #1 for a second week with "Too Close".

Besides the Three Days Grace track, the next biggest entry is by Papa Roach, who topped this chart with their first single back in 2000, "Last Resort". Their latest is already a top-20 hit on the Rock Songs list, "Still Swingin'" at #37. Its from their October release The Connection...


British rock gods Coldplay are at #38 with the fifth single from their 2011 album Mylo Xyloto, "Hurts Like Heaven". The band has gone to #1 twice on this chart before, with "Viva La Vida" in 2008, and "Paradise" last year...


Meanwhile, over on the Triple-A (hipster radio) chart, the Dave Matthews Band's "Mercy" spends a second week at the top.

The top debut here at #27 is English indie-rockers Keane, who follow up their top-10 hit "Silenced By The Night" with "Sovereign Light Cafe". Both are from their awesome new album, Strangeland...


Albequerque's The Shins scored a #2 hit here earlier this year with "Simple Song", and they're now at #30 with its successor, "It's Only Life"...
