Pop Sweep: September 1, 2012...

Hey guys, it's time to kick off this week's "chart sweeps" of the latest music making their way onto the charts at Billboard magazine. This time out it's the newest singles on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and the Adult top-40 pop charts.

On the Hot 100, Taylor Swift crashes the party at #1 with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together". The new #1 album (which I'll cover on tomorrow's "album sweep") is rapper 2 Chainz' Based On A TRU Story, which has three songs in this weeks chart (along with two more songs he's guesting on). While his "No Lie" is still hanging around the top-40 at #28, his track "Yuck!" featuring Lil' Wayne comes in at #80...

Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco has racked up two top-10 singles so far, including the #9 hit "The Show Must Go On" from 2010. Singer/actress Brandy's first album in four years, Two Eleven, is due in October, and the first single from the set, "Put It Down" featuring the can't freaking avoid Chris Brown, enters at #95. She's had two #1 pop singles (including the classic "The Boy Is Mine" with Monica), and this new song is already in the R&B top 20...

Country group Florida Georgia Line is named from the homestates of its two leaders, Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. The first single, "Cruise", is in the top-40 on the country chart, and debuts on the Hot 100 at #99...

Meanwhile, over on the Adult Pop top-40 chart, Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" spends a second week at #1.

The highest debut here this week is by Kathie Lee Gifford's not-so-favorite person, Taylor Swift, with her Hot 100-topping "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", at #21. Her hit "You Belong With Me" in 2009 so far has been her biggest, just missing the top at #2.

LA-based singer/songwriter Andy Grammer has his third Adult pop top-40 hit from his self-titled debut album with "Miss Me" at #38. "Keep Your Head Up" was a top-5 hit here for him last year...

Irish rock group the Script have scored a #1 single on this chart in 2010 with "Breakeven", and since then, lead singer Danny O'Donoghue has been a judge/mentor on the British version of The Voice. He comes in at #40 with "Hall Of Fame", featuring fellow judge will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas, from their upcoming album #3...

That wraps up the pop side of things...stay tuned, in 90 minutes I'll bring you the latest on the rock charts...
