Pop Sweep: August 18, 2012...

Hey guys, thanks for droppin' by, and now time for the first installment of today's five-part "chart sweeps" of the new music entering the music charts in Billboard magazine. This part will cover the all-genre Hot 100 and the Adult-Top-40 pop charts. (As a side note, this is my 1400th post. Holy Crap!)

On the Hot 100, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" spends a ninth week at the top, making it the longest stay at #1 this year...

The biggest debut belongs to rapper 50 Cent, whose fifth studio album Street King Immortal is due out in November. His first chart hit in three years as a lead artist (since the top-40 "Baby By Me" in 2009) features Grammy darling Alicia Keys on vocals and Dr. Dre with a rap cameo on "New Day" at #79...

Latin soul singer Miguel had one of the biggest tracks on R&B radio last year with "Sure Thing" (also a top-40 hit), and form his upcoming set Kaleidoscope Dream comes "Adorn" at #82...

Rapper/label mogul Rick Ross' God Forgives, I Don't is the #1 album in the US this week, and his first single from the set to make the Hot 100, "Diced Pineapples" featuring Wale and Drake, comes in at #89...(NSFW)

Las Vegas alt-rock band Imagine Dragons' 2012 EP Continued Silence has already sent single "It's Time" into the Hot 100 (where it reaches a new high of #83 this week), as another of its six tracks, "Radioactive" enters at #93 most likely due to exposure from commercials for the NBC show Chicago Fire airing during the Olympics...

Singer/songwriter Keyshia Cole had her biggest success so far in 2007 with the pop Top-10/R&B #1 "Let It Go". She's back at #94 with a track racing up the R&B chart (it's #13 after only five weeks), "Enough Of No Love", featuring a rap from Lil' Wayne...

R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo is riding high in the pop top-20 this week guesting on Calvin Harris' "Let's Go", and now a song from his upcoming album R.E.D. enters at #99, "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)"...

And at #100 is Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar, with his first Hot 100 single, "Swimming Pools (Drank)"...

Meanwhile over on the Adult Pop chart, as Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa's "Payphone" spends a sixth week at the top, and the big debut is by British singer and X Factor UK finalist Cher Lloyd, with a song that's done way better so far in the States, "Want U Back"...

And in at #39 is a song I referenced before, Scottish DJ Calvin Harris with Ne-Yo on the totally jammable "Let's Go"...

My picks for the week are both the Ne-Yo tracks, he's got a great pop-songwriting sense and they're both great driving jams.

Up in 90 minutes, the newest over on rock radio this week.....
