Brit Sweep: July 29, 2012...

Hey folks, sorry so late, just got back from the Balloon Fest, but ready to tackle the new songs on this weeks Official Singles sales chart in the UK. This week Florence + The Machine spend a third week (deservedly) at the #1 position with "Spectrum (Say My Name)"...

The highest debut this week belongs to Conor Maynard, who I would describe as England's answer to Justin Beiber. The nineteen-year-old from Brighton's first single, "Can't Say No", made it to the #2 spot, and his followup, "Vegas Girl", comes on this week at #4...

US pop-duo Karmin's top-20 hit "Brokenhearted" does even better across the ocean, arriving at #6..

French-born DJ Cedric Gervais has his first hit single at #26 with the controversial allegedly drug-promoting "Molly"...

Meanwhile, another French DJ, Madeon, from the western city of Nantes, has his second top-40 hit in the UK with "Finale".

Just in time for the Olympics in London, Clement Marfo & The Frontline's "Champion" charts at #38...

The London Olympics opening ceremony is already charting songs, as the Arctic Monkeys' take on the Beatles' classic "Come Together" comes in at #67...

The next debut is also from Friday's ceremony. It's Northern Irish singer Alex Trimble of the Two Door Cinema Club, singing "Caliban's Dream", written by electronica act Underworld, at #69...

British alt-rock group Keane have placed four singles in the top-10, including the #3 "Somewhere Only We Know" which made the top half of the US pop chart, and they're back with the third single from their Strangeland album, "Sovereign Light Cafe", at #74...

One rung below Keane at #75 is New Brunswick, New Jersey's Gaslight Anthem, with their rock hit "45"...

And finally, at #97, is British folk singer/songwriter Frank Turner, with "I Still Believe"...

I'm diggin' the most on the Underworld Olympic song, the Gaslight Anthem, and Frank Turner. Cheers!
