Songoftheday 6/27/12 - You say you're not sure about love, if this thing we got together is real...

Leslie Pearl - "If The Love Fits Wear It"
from the album Words & Music (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #28 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 7

Today's Song of the Day is by Pennsylvania-born singer Leslie Pearl. Pearl, a jingle writer, released her first and only album in 1982, with songs like "Let's Go To Bed Early and Stay Up All Night" and "You're The First Thing I Want (But The Last Thing I Need)". But it was the more succinct "If The Love Fits Wear It" that she co-wrote with Phil Redrow that gave Leslie her first and only top-40 hit.

The song was a big adult-contemporary (soft-rock) hit, reaching #7 and staying on that chart for 17 weeks. It's extremely hard to find on CD, only appearing in the States on one of Barry Scott's 70's/80's compilations, but I'm really quite fond of its cliched charm.

Up tomorrow: An artist who had five top-ten hits in the early sixties finds himself employed by "The Boss"...
