Songoftheday - We both are here to have big fun...

Dazz Band -  "Let It Whip"
from the album Keep It Live (1982)
Billbaord Hot 100 peak: #5 (two weeks)
weeks in the top 40: 16

Today's Song of the Day is hands-down my favorite jam of 1982. The Dazz Band was formed as Kinsman Dazz in the late 70's, and were signed to Motown Records in 1980. Their third album for the label, Keep It Live, produced the #1 R&B #5 pop hit "Let It Whip", a delicious slice of post-disco funk.

"Let It Whip" would go on to win the Grammy for best R&B performance by a group in 1983. While the group wouldn't enjoy another top-40 hit, the Dazz Band had three more top-10 R&B hits in the 80's, including the top-3 dance single "Let It All Blow".

The song would later be covered by such various artists as R&B crooners Boyz II Men...

...to pop-punk band SR-71...

to Australian boyband CDB...

A little Antipodean 98 Degrees, no?
