twostepcub's music chart for April 13, 2012...

Hey folks, it's time for my weekly list of my top-100 songs. This week Gotye and Kimbra share a sixth week at the top, while Kelly Clarkson (pictured above) hangs in in the top-10. Firmer big hits by Florence + The Machine, Erasure, and the Swedish House Mafia drop out, while tracks by Lee Brice, Jason Aldean, and Yoko Ono make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places marked in red). Link-Rama is still in effect, so you can click the highlighted name of any of the artists on the chart to go to their official website (rightclick and use a separate tab or window and keep this up). Let the games begin!

There are five new songs on my list this week (highlighted in yellow), and here they are, along with a little about the artist, with links to their previous video hits in orange.

The highest entry belongs to singer-songwriter Mat Kearney, who hails from Eugene Oregon. His biggest hit so far has been his first single, the top-10 adult-pop track "Nothing Left To Lose". Late last year he returned with the excellent song "Hey Mama", and follows that up with another top-30 adult40 hit, "Ships In The Night". His vocals remind me of Coldplay's Chris Martin, especially...

Next up is sister act L2, comprised of Melissa and Jessica, who two years ago scored a top-10 dance club hit with "Boys and Girls". Recently they were nominated for awards in their roles in the Off-Broadway play Cleopatra - a Life Unparalleled. They are back with the top-20 "Insomnia"...

California heavy metal group Five Finger Death Punch (named for a martial arts move) have taken their third LP to the top-3 on the US albums chart, and the second single from the CD has risen to the runner-up spot on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, matching their cover of the 70s classic "Bad Company". Here they are with "Remember Everything"...

British electro-dance singer Labrinth was Simon Cowell's first signing in six years that wasn't connected to a TV singing competition, and he's more that compensated for the exposure by placing all three of his lead-artist singles into the UK top-five, as well as two collaborations with rapper Tinie Tempah. His last, the rockin' "Earthquake", made it to #2 in the UK. His latest is "Last Time"...

The final debut is by Dutchman Nick Van der Wall, who records under the moniker Afrojack. He had originally gained worldwide acclaim with the dance track "Take Over Control", before co-writing and producing the mega-smash with Pitbull, "Give Me Everything" last year. He comes this year with a song featuring fellow Holland trio Shermanology on "Can't Stop Me"...

And that's it. Have a great weekend!
