twostepcub's music chart for July 8, 2011...

Hey everyone, sorry for being a little late but the half-year recap and work put me behind schedule, but it's time for my top100 tunes for the week. This week the Gordy Boys of LMFAO spend a third week at the top, while Lady GaGa (pictured above), makes a big jump in the top-10. Major moves are made by single from Coldplay, Katy Perry, and Jason Aldean, while former big hits by Sara Bareilles, Mumford & Sons, Ronnie Dunn, Jennifer Hudson, and the Black Keys drop out. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artist names to go to their website for more info about 'em. Poor groundhog!

This week there is a big shift, with a baker's dozen song making their debut on my list, with one more making a big re-entry. I highlighted all the new songs in yellow, and here they are with the artists' previous hit videos linked in orange.

The highest entry is by the dance collaboration of DJ's called the Swedish House Mafia. Appropriately from Stockholm, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso have carved a niche in the remixing scene for years, each having success as solo artists. Axwell actually charted a #1 US dance hit in 2004 with "Burning" (with Robbie Rivera), and a top-10 pop hit in the UK with "I Found U" in 2007. Steve Angello had his best supporting David Guetta on the Dance Airplay top-5 "Baby When The Light", and those two also recruited Ingrosso for the top-20 "Everytime We Touch". The three formed SHM in 2009, and in the next placed two songs in the UK pop and US dance top 10 - "One (Your Name)" with Pharrell, and the awesome "Miami 2 Ibiza" with Tinie Tempah. Their latest made a hat trick for them on both charts, and with this dog-friendly clip, their most epic yet. Here's "Save The World"...

The next entry is by Nashville rock band Hot Chelle Rae, which includes guitarist/vocalist Nash Overstreet, who has music success in his DNA - his father is Paul Overstreet, who had a #1 country hit in 1990 with "Daddy's Come Around", while his Chord appears on the TV musical series Glee and sang lead on 4 of the cast's top-40 hits (his best was the cover of "Lucky"). Chord makes a cameo in his bro's first hit, "Tonight Tonight" which gets points for fitting in Zac Galifinakis...

Ingenue Eva gets a little help from fellow trash-dance queen Ke$ha who wrote "Not My Daddy"...

And on the total flipside of that, Disney alum Selena Gomez started out on the kids show Barney & Friends in the early 2000s. After stints on different shows including Hannah Montana, Gomez starred in her own show Wizards of Waverly Place. More shows and films followed, along with a record career that's scored her three top-10 albums, four top-40 US pop hits, and two #1 Dance hits - "Naturally" (which also was a top-10 hit in Britain), and "A Year Without Rain". Her latest is her biggest US pop hit so far, and it's a pretty good self-empowerment anthem, though being the girlfriend of Justin Bieber can give any girl confidence, eh? Here's "Who Says"...

I was one of the mistaken that originally thought the Eli Young Band was the supporting band for one Eli Young, but in fact the group is named from two of their members, Mike Eli and James Young. The group released their first CD three years back, and the slow-burner eventually produced the top-20 country hit "Always The Love Songs". Their latest is another ballad/waltz, and it's "Crazy Girl"...

New Orleans-based soul singer Ledisi nabbed a Grammy nomination in 2007, and just missed the Adult R&B top-10 with the lush "Alright". Her latest CD became her first US top-10 all-genre album, and has given her biggest hit yet with "Pieces Of Me"...

Now for an actually new-artist Grammy winner (in 2009), Adele is still riding the wave of success with "Rolling In The Deep", and so far has the biggest-selling CD this year in both the US and the UK. Her third single from 21 is the epic Coldplay-esque "Set Fire To The Rain"...

Brad Paisley follows up his #1 country hit "Old Alabama" with another collaboration, this time with Carrie Underwood, "Remind Me"...

Scottish electronica artist Calvin Harris has previous scored a #1 lead artist hit with "I'm Not Alone" in 2009, one of his four previous top-10 UK singles. His latest, and fifth, pairs Harris with R&B singer Kelis, who is best known for her "Milkshake" bringing all the boys to the yard. The result is the quirky Vegas-bound clip for "Bounce"...

Another British import, folk singer Ed Sheeran has his first hit with the powerful "A Team". Amazing job with the song and the video which was made for a reported 20 pounds...

Barbadian siren Rihanna ends her short break from my chart with her latest, a ballad that shows of her underrated vocal range, with "California King Bed". She's been so entrenched in the dance genre that her last big ballad hit was "Take A Bow" in 2008, so this is a welcome change of pace...

Also from the British Isles, rapper Tinchy Stryder had a one-two #1 UK hit punch with "Number 1" and "Never Leave You" in 2009. The former featured English rap/R&B outfit N-Dubz, who had a top-5 UK of their own with "I Need You", and one-third of that group, Dappy, helps out Tinchy on his latest top-5 UK hit, "Spaceship"...

The final entry is from the Black Eyed Peas, who despite the annoucement of their hiatus, are still enjoying the success of "Just Can't Get Enough" in the states, while in Europe are coming on strong with "Don't Stop The Party"...

and finally as a bonus, here's the "pop mix" of the big re-entry, The Band Perry's "If I Die Young", which has now found a home on mainstream American radio after a long stint on country radio...

Adios, amigos!
