twostepcub's music chart for May 20, 2011...

Hey folks, it's the end of the week, and time for my top-100 tunes for the past 7 days. This week Adele spends a second week on top, while R&B songstress Marsha Ambrosius (pictured above) sails into the top-10. The biggest jumps are made by songs by LMFAO, Kat Deluna, and Snoop Dogg (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red), while a former big hit by Thompson Square drops out. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artists to go to their website for more information.

There are seven new entries on my list (highlighted in yellow), and I've included links to previous hits in orange.

The highest debut is by a singer who is not well known generally, but in the dance music genre she reigns supreme, with a remarkable 15 out of 16 #1 dance hits on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart (the 16th peaked at #2). That streak started with 1994's "Feel What You Want" to 2009's "The Power Of Music". Her latest is heading to join her list, as "Fade" is already in the top-3....

Kristine W - Fade (Subgroover Radio) by Subgroover

After a seven year break between vocal-rap albums (with an instrumental CD inbetween), the legendary Beastie Boys are back. The NYC trio are best-known in the US for their singular top-10 hit, "(You Gotta)Fight For Your Right (To Party)" in 1987, and they also had a #1 modern rock single in 2004 with "Ch-Check It Out". Their new single "Make Some Noise" reincarnates the boys from FFYR as Elijah Wood, Seth Rogan, and Danny McBride, along with a crowd of famous extras like Ted Danson, Will Ferrell, Kirsten Dunst, Orlando Bloom, and more. See if you can spot them all!

Australian rockers INXS have spent the last 15 years recovering from the loss of their lead singer Michael Hutchence. In 2005, the group appeared on the TV show Rock Star: INXS where singers competed to become the new lead. JD Fortune won out, and fronted the band for a top-10 adult pop hit in "Pretty Vegas". While they are seemingly keeping fortune, the band released a tribute album to Hutchence, using guest singers in most of the tracks, including turns on two of their top-3 singles "Devil Inside" and "New Sensation" (oddly enough, there's no sign of their only #1 US Hit, "Need You Tonight") On "Original Sin", the band recruits Rob Thomas for vocal duty, and the resulting remix is racing up the dance charts....

Next up is Swedish DJ Eric Prydz, who has been quite successful in England with a #1 that repeatedly cribs two lines from a Steve Winwood song with "Call On Me", then made #2 there with a remake of Pink Floyd in "Proper Education". Finally Prydz had a hit with an original composition, the instrumental "Pjanoo" in 2008. He is back with a original vocal track that is my fave of his so far. Here is "Niton (The Reason)"...

Martina McBride hands down has the most powerful, Celine-esque voice in country music, though she's drifted sadly away from the dramatic and effective early work like "Wild Angels" and "Broken Wing" to more soccer-mom ditties like "I Love You" and "Blessed". She's back on full commit to SM status with "Teenage Daughters"...

Texan Gospel preacher Kirk Franklin was once the absolute star of Christian soul, scoring top-10 albums and a #1 R&B hit with "Stomp" with his collective Nu Nation as well as solo with the top-5 disco-fied "Looking For You". Franklin is back with the joyful "I Smile"...

The last debut is by French-Canadian non-Celine diva Mylene Farmer, who was ruled the French music charts with eleven #1 hits in the European market, dating back to 1988 with "Pourvu Qu'elles Soient Douces" and including a string of seven consecutive charttoppers to this past year's "Oui Mais...Non". Her latest #1 in that streak is the title track from her current CD, Bleu Noir.

Adieu!
