twostepcub's music chart for April 29, 2011...

Hey folks, another week gone by and time for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week Cee-Lo Green fucking finally takes over the top spot, while Mumford & Sons (pictured above) finally get a top-10 hit. There's a lot of action in the chart, with twenty-one songs moving 10+ places (and marked in red), as tracks by LMFAO, Sultan & Ned Shepard, and Cee-Lo (again) making the biggest jumps. Also former big hits by Train, Kylie Minogue, and Yoko Ono drop out. Link-O-Rama is in effect still, so you can click on any of the 100 or so highlighted artist names to go to their website for more info on them. Carry on, then...

There are eleven new songs on my list (highlighted in yellow) I've also included links to previous hits of these artists in orange. Now let's get goin'...

The highest debut is by Dominican singer Kat Deluna, who was born in the Bronx, but moved to the Republic as a youngster. a few years ago Deluna had a couple hits that made the US dance chart at #1 ("Whine Up") and #2 ("Run The Show"). She is back with a CD released in Europe months ago, but a hot new track thats racing up the dance chart. Here's "Dancing Tonight"...

Sticking around the Caribbean, next is Puerto Rican singer La India, who was born on the island, but unlike Kat moved to the Bronx young. Born Linda Caballero, she has scored three #1 hits on the dance chart - 1993's "I Can't Get No Sleep", 1994's "Love & Happiness", and 1997's "Runaway". In fact, her remake of "I Can't Get No Sleep" made the top-3 a couple years ago. She's back teamed with Italian DJ Peppe Citarella from the southern city of Aserta for the international-flavored tongue-twister "Tacalacateo"...

And rounding out our Caribbean vacation is Barbadian Rihanna, supporting vocals on the next song by rapper Kanye West. Kanye can boast two US #1 pop hits with "Gold Digger" in 2005 and "Stronger" in 2007. His latest sports backing vocals from a who's who of pop singers, including Elton John, Alicia Keys, Fergie, Drake, Elly Jackson of La Roux, John Legend, and more, though with the production layering intent on blending the voices, the only vocal easily discernible is Rihanna's and the rap break of Kid Cudi's (Rihanna gets the sole "featured" nod). And in true Kanye form, it comes with a striking video not safe for the seizure-prone for "All Of The Lights"...

Country star Brad Paisley's new CD drops this month, and the second single brings back the biggest country group of the 80's Alabama. Alabama placed 32 songs at #1 on the US country chart, from "Tennessee River" way back in 1980 to "Reckless" in 1993. In fact, they had 21 straight #1 hits from '80 to '87. Paisley isn't doing too badly himself, having a 10-song #1 streak in 2005-2009 from "When I Get Where I'm Going" to "Then". It's fitting that Brad brings the boys from retirement with a tribute song, "Old Alabama"...

Rapper, singer, and activist Michael Franti returns with a powerful song and video that's been my favorite album track of his since his big hit "Say Hey (I Love You)" with his supporting outfit, Spearhead. His latest proclaims "I'll Be Waiting"...

Next we have the first hit by Romanian singer Alexandra Stan, whose bio states she's a university student and born in the Black Sea-side city of Constanta. Her song has become a top-10 hit in her homeland as well as a #1 hit in Italy and just this week on the US Dance Radio chart. Here she is in jail with "Mr. Saxobeat"...

Continuing the international parade of debuts is French electronica duo Justice. Their debut CD was nominated for a Grammy, and the track "D.A.N.C.E." was a top-10 club hit in the US. Their latest already has received exposure from an Adidas ad campaign. Here's "Civilization"...

American rock outfit Papa Roach have the second hit single from their latest CD Time For Annihilation following "Kick In The Teeth" from last year. Their best showing has been depending on the genre - on pop radio, they've had a top-15 hit with "Scars", while on rock radio the band has had one #1 each on mainstream ("Lifeline") and alternative ("Last Resort") rock . With nine rock top-10s to their name in ten years, Papa Roach's ninth is "Burn"...

The Airborne Toxic Event are like Papa Roach from California, and have had one top-40 hit in the UK and also a top-5 alt-rock hit with "Sometime Around Midnight" a couple years ago. The quintet is back with another rock hit with "Changing"...

The final entry is by Tacoma, Washington-based duo He Is We, with their premiere hit, "Happily Ever After", and it's got cutesy 1994 coffeehouse written all over it.Awww.

By the way, did someone get married today?
