twostepcub's music chart for April 15, 2011...

Hey folks, it's Tax Day in the US, though I've already had my refund back for 2 months now, so it's time for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week The Zac Brown Band put the first country song at my top spot in a long long while, as Cee-Lo Green (pictured above) also finally makes it into the top-3. The biggest jumps come from songs by Alexis Jordan, Jennifer Hudson, and Katy Perry (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red), while a former big hit by Bruno Mars that was in my top-10 for the year so far drops out. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the 100 and so artists highlighted to go to their website (right-click, and you can use another tab or window and leave this one up. Neato!) And here we go.....

This week there are six new songs on my list (marked in yellow), and I've included previous hit video links in orange.

The highest debut belongs to dance sensation Ultra Nate', who is one of the few consistent singers who mostly are confined to the clubs (Kristine W also comes to mind). The Maryland native (from Havre de Grace) has had seven charttopping club hits, from "Show Me" in 1994 to the classics "Free" and "Found A Cure" in 1997-8 (both top-10 pop hits in England) to 2007's double punch of "Automatic" and "Give It All You Got". Her latest is from her upcoming CD Hero Worship, and it's "Turn It Up"...

Next up is the first single from indie-rock trio Foster The People, named presumably for singer Mark Foster. It's mellowed out vibe hides a dark little chorus on "Pumped Up Kicks"...

Taylor Swift recently won Entertainer of the Year at the ACM awards show, and performed this track on the program. It's a favorite of mine from the Speak Now CD, and is possibly a contender to be her fifth country #1, joining juggernauts like "Our Song" and "You Belong With Me". It's also a little kiss-off to her critics, who are "Mean"...

Ryan Tedder's band, OneRepublic, have their third single chart from their latest CD Waking Up, with a song that's already been a top-20 hit in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, like their last hit, "Secrets", was before crossing over here to the States. Their crowning achievement still remains their collaboration with uber-producer Timbaland with "Apologize", but "Good Life" is a great top-40 song nonetheless...

The next song is by the DJ duo of Sultan and Ned Shepard from Montreal, Canada, who have remixed many artists, but have the first hit on their own right with a song featuring Libyan-American chanteuse Nadia Ali, who has already reached the dance chart summit twice, once as part of the group iiO with "Is It Love?" and once solo with "Love Story". Their latest is "Call My Name"...

The last entry is in my view the oddest of the set. It's by "Sir" Ivan (Wilzig), who is a Jersey-born banker-turned singer reknown for his Long Island parties, and also converting non-dance oldies for the clubs (i.e. the top-50 dance hit of "For What It's Worth"). His latest is a dance version of, yes, um, "Hare Krishna". Enjoy. um. Enjoy.
