twostepcub's music chart for January 7, 2011...

Hey folks, it's the new year, and it's time for my first top-100 tunes for this year. This week Pink spends a second week at #1, while the Black Keys (pictured above) hang on in the top-5. Tracks by Bruno Mars, Erika Jayne, and Florence + The Machine make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places marked in red), while former big hits by Michael Buble, The Ting Tings, Kylie Minogue, and Enrique Iglesias drop out. Link-O-Rama is in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artists to go to their website. Happy 2011!

There are six new songs on my list (debuts marked in yellow), and if you click on the orange links you'll fine YouTube clips of their classic songs.

The highest new song is a song by Cher. It's crazy to think that she can now sing "When I'm Sixty-Four" in the present tense. After a stint with ex-husband Sonny Bono, she has had four solo US pop number-one records - three in the 70's ("Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves", "Half-Breed", and "Dark Lady"), and then the comeback single "Believe" almost 25 years later. Her latest is taken from the soundtrack of the movie Burlesque, and its fitting title is "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me"...

There are two highly-respected European DJs with new songs on my chart, and the first is Dutchman Armin Van Buuren. Van Buuren has won the DJ Magazine top DJ poll four years running, and under the moniker Perpetuous Dreamer hit #1 in the US dance chart with "The Sound Of Goodbye". He also made the top-20 in Britain with the song "Communication". This time, he teams up with British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who had a #1 song in the UK in 2000 with "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)". Their latest is already in Billboard's top-5 dance radio chart, and it's "Not Giving Up On Love"...

The other DJ is Frenchman Martin Solveig. He's had two British top-40 hits, including the #22 "Everybody", as well as six in his homeland. His biggest there was "Boys And Girls", which features the Canadian band Dragonette. That electronica outfit also lends a hand with Solveig's new single, "Hello"...

Next up is Australian duo Empire Of The Sun, who were on my chart last with their US top-20 dance hit "Walking On A Dream". Their latest is a huge hit in Germany, hitting #1 there, and it's "We Are The People"...

Rounding out my international entries is French electronica-pop singer Mylene Farmer, whom I've compared to Sarah Brightman and Tori Amos in the past. She has her tenth #1 hit in France with this next song, which previews her upcoming CD Bleu Noir. Her last, Point De Suture, produced five of those #1 hits, including faves "Si J'avais Au Moins" and "C'est Dans L'air", and is really worth searching out on import. Her latest single is "Oui Mais...Non"...

The last artist here is US country star Brad Paisley, who has charted 16 #1 country hits since 1999. That includes ten consecutive charttoppers, which is an amazing feat. The biggest was "Letter To Me", which stayed there for four weeks. His latest is an ode to his niche, "This Is Country Music"...

Onward and Upwards....
