twostepcub's music chart for February 27, 2009...

Here I am, as the snow is falling, posting my tunes for the week. This week Lady GaGa with Colby O'Donis spend a second week at the top, while the Pussycat Dolls (pictured above) make it into the top-5. Former hit songs by Flanders and two by Leona Lewis drop out of the chart, while songs by Enrique Iglesias, Nicki Richards, and Theory Of A Deadman make the biggest jumps. And since T.I.'s "Life Your Life drops, this is the first no-Rihanna list since I can remember. Link-O-Rama is back, so you can click on the name of any of the artists to go to their website (right click and you can stay here while bringing up the site in another tab or window) . I don't think this is what they mean by "shovel-ready"...

This week five new songs debut on the chart. By far the highest is the new track from English singer Lily Allen. Daughter of Welsh comedian Keith Allen, Lily had an awesome debut album in 2006, (Alright, Still), which was one of the best of the Britgirls releases with its sweet yet subversive lyric. This time out she hooks up with producer Greg Kurstin, who as 1/2 of act Bird & The Bee, had a song on my chart a couple years back ("F*cking Boyfriend"). Here's her take on being part of "pop culture" and my pick for the week, "The Fear"...

Next up is the former frontman for one of my fave R&B bands of the early 80s, the Gap Band. Hailing from Oklahoma, Charlie Wilson led the funk on classics like "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" and "Early In The Morning". He's has revival of late thanks to rapper Snoop Dogg, who has featured him on songs like "Signs" and "Beautiful", as well as having a top-10 album in the US, Charlie Last Name Wilson. His latest does even better, debuting at the #2 spot on the pop albums chart, and its single "There Goes My Baby", which is cool retro funk ballad material, debuts on my chart...

It's hard to believe that Randy Travis' "I Told You So" is 21 years old. Yep. Old enough to drink. Jeez. Well Carrie Underwood, who was 5 when this song was originally out, remakes it for her current album, Carnival Ride, and it becomes the fifth single to hit the chart. Who knows, it's got the potential to match the other four's #1 Billboard Country single positions.

John Michael Montgomery is back after a long absence, and he's long overdue. Four years since his last big chart hit, "Letters From Home", and a stint in rehab, John's latest single from the first album from his self-owned label, Stringtown, is a classic love song in the vein of his classics "I Swear" and "Angel In My Eyes", here's "Forever"...

And finally, a country act that hasn't gotten cold at all since they debuted in 2000. As has been their ritual, the first single from their upcoming album is another heartbreak ballad, here's "Here Comes Goodbye"...

If you're on the East, stay warm, and keep that shovel ready!
