twostepcub's music chart for February 13, 2009...

Good evening, and Happy Valentine's Day slash Friday the 13th to ya (no pun intended). It's time for my tunes for the week, and Nickelback spend an eighth week on top, while Americans King Of Leon, who are big in the UK, move up my top-10. Former big hits by John Legend and Coldplay drop off the chart, while in a week where 15 songs move at least 10 spaces, Lady GaGa, The Ting Tings, and Kelly Clarkson make the biggest jumps. Link-o-Rama is still in full effect, so you can click on the highlighted name of any artist to go to their website. May love reign!

This week eight new songs debut, and one more re-enters. The highest debut is by singer Shontelle, who like Rihanna originally hails from the Caribbean nation of Barbados. She has had a career singing in the Bajan style (Barbadian Creole), and now expands to the US R&B market....

Next up is British super-girlgroup Girls Aloud, who have amassed twenty, yes twenty top-10 hits in the UK without making even a dent over here. It's a tragic shame, especially with such great material as this song penned by the Pet Shop Boys, here's "The Loving Kind"..

Kim Sozzi scraped my top-40 late last year, and her track is still managing to stay current, and re-enters the list...

I had written earlier in the month about Enrique Iglesias, who is charting consistently over in Europe. His latest American single is burning up the dance chart, and comes in at #90. Here's "Away"...

Country powerhouse singer Martina McBride's back with a new song, still mining that soccer-mom shtick. Here's "Ride"...

Tim McGraw has put seven singles from his latest album, Let It Go, on my chart, with the seventh being the inspirational "Nothin' To Die For"...

Los Angeles indie band Airborne Toxic Event has their first chart single with "Sometime Around Midnight", it's a great moody piece for these winter times...

and on the opposite side of the coin Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi hits it big in England with the help of remixers Crookers with "Day N Nite"...

And finally, showing my increasing love for the Europop, coming in at #100 is the French hit "Tatoue Moi", by the star of the upcoming musical "L'Opera Mozart", Mikelangelo Loconte. It sounds like a great show, and whether you can understand the language or not, the song is an awesome piece of power-pop.

and as a bonus here's the cast performing it live...

Bonjour!
