Twostepcub's music chart for January 9, 2009....

Hey boys and girls, it's a snowy Saturday night, and it's time for my tunes for the week. This week Nickelback spends a fifth week at the top, while Finnish cello rock band Apocalyptica (pictured above) makes it into the top three. Former big hits by Jon McLaughlin, Adele, Matt Nathanson, Craig Morgan, Kreesha Turner, and Jordin Sparks drop out, as songs by Madonna, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce make the biggest moves (the red-marked artists jumps are the best) . Link-O-Rama is in effect, so you can click on the name of any artist to go to their website . "It's just like a Batman movie"...

This week nine new songs debut, and the highest, just like last week, is the premier dance diva of a decade, this time of the 70's. Donna Summer has had 18 #1 dance club hits, and this one may add another. It's the fourth single from her Crayons album, and the third to debut on here. Here's the sassy "Fame (The Game)"...

Leona Lewis has had 4 top-5 songs in Britain up till now, and her fifth (and third #1) is possibly her best so far. It's a cover of the band Snow Patrol's "Run", and she first performed it on a radio show called Live Lounge, where artists perform their own material but also choose a song by another artist. Her rendition was so popular that she decided to record it as a tack-on to her current album, Spirit. It's a phenomenal and uplifting interpretation, and it's my pick of the week..

The next song is a re-vamp of a rave classic from 1990 (yes, friggin' 18 years ago!). British born, Guru Josh (real name Paul Walden) got his start here in New Jersey, yet this song just barely missed the top-20 on the dance chart back then. However in the UK, it was so popular it made the pop top-5. This time, German remixer DJ Klaas shine "Infinity" up a bit, and again it turns into a smash all over Europe - making the top of the chart in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, while topping his rank in the UK. Here's "Infinity 2008"...

Californians Thriving Ivory have been pushed by VH1's "You Oughta Know" program, and its success is paying off with their debut single, "Angels On The Moon"...

Eric Hutchinson is a singer/songwriter in the vein of Jason Mraz, and his debut single "Rock And Roll" is a fun bouncy little ditty...

Darius Rucker is unsure whether he's keeping band Hootie & Blowfish together, but his country singer career is paying off either way. His second single from his Learn To Live album, "It Won't Be Like This For Long", debuts...

Well all messed up things must comeback. It's the American Way. And nothing says that better than Ms. Britney Spears. Already on the chart with "Womanizer", the title track storms on, and in my opinion is even more entertaining. Here's "Circus"...

Scottish lass Amy MacDonald has had an international smash with her hit "This Is The Life", and the song now makes my top hits. It's odd in the fact that the tune, which to me reminds of the best of the Smiths' acoustic songs, only scraped the top-30 in the UK, while making the #1 spot in countries like Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, and Switzerland, and #2 in the formidable markets of France and Germany (where it's at its top popularity now).

Oklahomans All-American Rejects had three big-time hits on their last album - "Dirty Little Secret", "Move Along", and "It Ends Tonight". Their latest is a preview from their upcoming CD. Here's "Gives You Hell"...

Coming up soon - my 2008 recap!
